Leadership Coaching and Mentoring

Working With Me

Throughout my life, both personally and professionally, I have found value and purpose in helping people to grow, to deliver results and to enjoy their work.  After leaving the police force after nearly 20 years, I worked in local government before obtaining a first class honours degree in Philosophy and a Masters in Psychoanalytic Studies.

I now combine my experiences in the police force and corporate environments with the skills I have developed as a psychoanalyst to provide coaching and mentoring to those in leadership positions, and to people transitioning to the next phase of their career.

Why is coaching different to therapy?

Coaching and therapy are distinct disciplines, each with unique goals, methodologies, and target outcomes. Coaching focuses on helping you to achieve specific personal or professional goals by enhancing your skills, performance, and overall effectiveness. It is future-oriented, emphasising actionable plans, goal setting, and the development of strategies to overcome obstacles and achieve success. Coaching can help you to focus in and improve on certain areas when you are already operating at a high level.

By contrast, therapy addresses psychological and emotional issues, often delving into past experiences to understand and heal mental health conditions such as anxiety, depression, or trauma. Therapy aims to provide relief from emotional distress and improve mental health through various therapeutic techniques and interventions.

The relationship between coach and client is essential to the effectiveness of coaching.  Christopher creates a confidential safe space for you to be open and honest, and where he can provide challenge and support – a space for you to think.  Sessions will be led by you, focusing on success as you define it.  Christopher’s approach is adaptable, and draws from various disciplines and experience across his areas of professional expertise and life experience.

There are many ways coaching can help you achieve your goals.  Christopher can provide particular focus on:

RESILIENCE

Resilience in leadership roles is crucial, enabling leaders to navigate challenges, setbacks, and uncertainties with composure and determination. Resilient leaders inspire confidence and stability within their teams, fostering a culture of adaptability and continuous improvement. By demonstrating resilience, leaders can effectively manage stress, maintain focus on long-term goals, and make informed decisions even under pressure. This ability to bounce back from adversity not only enhances their own performance but also motivates and empowers their team members to persevere and thrive in a dynamic and often unpredictable work environment.

Coaching can significantly enhance resilience in leadership helping you forge tailored strategies and support to develop emotional and mental fortitude. Through one-on-one sessions, Christopher helps you to identify and leverage your strengths, navigate stressors, and cultivate a growth mindset. By addressing specific challenges and fostering self-awareness, coaching will enable you to build coping mechanisms and adaptive skills. This personalised guidance helps leaders remain focused and effective during crises, adapt to changing circumstances, and maintain a positive outlook, ultimately fostering a resilient leadership style that benefits the entire organization.

TRANSITION

Coaching for career transition involves guiding individuals through the process of changing their career path, whether it’s shifting to a new industry, role, or level of responsibility.

This type of coaching helps clients assess their strengths, interests, and values to identify suitable career options. Christopher provides personalised support, helping clients set realistic goals, develop necessary skills, and create actionable plans. Christopher also offers strategies for overcoming obstacles, building confidence, and enhancing job search techniques such as networking and interviewing. Ultimately, career transition coaching aims to empower individuals to achieve fulfilling and successful career changes.

Christopher is in a unique position to help you with career transition.  Having had a successful twenty year career with the police, Christopher re-trained to become a psychoanalytical therapist.  Combining his life experience, and therapeutic skills he is ideally placed to help you plan for your future.

COLLABORATION

Coaching can play a pivotal role in fostering collaboration within teams, enhancing communication, trust, and mutual respect among team members. Christopher works with teams to develop effective communication skills, address conflicts constructively, and align individual goals with collective objectives. By facilitating open dialogues and promoting a shared vision, Christopher will help you to break down silos and encourage a collaborative culture. This process involves identifying and leveraging diverse strengths within the team, leading to more innovative solutions and a cohesive, high-performing unit that works synergistically towards common goals.
